METAL CARE
All of the metals I use are labeled hypoallergenic.
Hypoallergenic jewelry means that there is minimal risk of causing an allergic reaction. Most hypoallergenic jewelry contains pure metals such as platinum, gold, titanium, copper, and stainless steel, fine silver, and sterling silver.
As such, with these metals, tarnishing may occur gradually when the surface of the metal is exposed to air and moisture. A chemical reaction begins to take place (known as oxidation), as the metal reacts with the sulphur in the air the metal starts to turn dark. There are many conditions that will cause metal to tarnish. Humidity, sweat, salt air, sulphur, hairspray, makeup and household chemicals are common things that might come in contact with your jewelry and cause it to change colour. The good news is tarnishing can be easily cleaned!
Treating Tarnished Metals:
You can clean by polishing with a jewelry cloth or you can use a mixture of white vinegar, baking soda with a small amount of lemon juice. Use a cotton bud or ball, and gently wipe over the metal components. Dry with a cloth.
